Uldis Balodis

Uldis Balodis was born in Australia in 1949 of Latvian immigrant parents.
Already interested in Buddhism in his early 20’s, he met and attended courses with Lama Zopa Rinpoche and Lama Yeshe in 1974 and founded Tara House in Melbourne, Australia. He spent a year in Dharamsala in and lived in Nepal for over 25 years, where he established a home for his family. During that time he had many opportunities to receive teachings from Lama Zopa Rinpoche at Kopan monastery. He was one of the first directors of the Himalayan Buddhist Meditation Centre in Kathmandu. From the year 2000 he has spent a large part of his time in Latvia teaching Dharma and establishing Ganden Centre in Riga and Den Nyi Ling Retreat Centre, in the countryside.

In the course of 40 years Uldis has received many teachings and initiations from many great lamas, and he was an ordained monk for 4 years.
