Founded in the third century B.C. by the Kirat dynasty and later expanded by the Licchavis in the sixth century, the ancient city of Patan is best known for its rich cultural heritage, particularly its tradition of arts and crafts. A tour to Patan provides an opportunity to experience some of the finest art and architecture of Nepal as well as ancient Buddhist temples including the Mahabuddha Temple. The Durbar Square of Patan contains some of the finest urban architecture in all of Nepal. As a traditional center of handicrafts, Patan is a great place to purchase jewelry, statues, masks etc. After a guided tour, you will have free time to explore the beauty of Patan on your own or check out the shops for souvenirs.
After exploring Patan, you will then be taken to the outskirts of the city to visit the ancient villages of Bungmati and Khokana.
Situated on the southern edge of the Kathmandu valley, Bungmati and Khokana still abide in ancient tradition as a way of life and exemplify the true beauty of close knit communities still living in an age-old culture and civilization.
